On Jan. 23. Dallas College North Lake Campus started a new science club, the North Red Cross Club with a brief meeting and orientation in P Building.
Dalya Odetella is the pres- ident, who is interested in ma- joring in neuroscience; Irlanda Cramer is the vice president ma- joring in science, and Emmanuel Avalos is the secretary ma- joring in business management.
They choose this name be- cause red represents blood, medical disaster relief and armed forces. They named the North Red Cross Club after the American Red Cross Club organization.
They partner with this organization to host activities and events at local schools and colleges. Their agenda is to support this club’s mission which is biometric services, armed force services and disaster relief.
It’s for people who are interested in pre-med nursing and the science field, for which they will need volunteer hours for internships and community services. The main goal for this club is to raise $1000 for chari- ty and to engage students in the student life at NLC.
If they raise money, they will donate it to charities that are approved by the American Red Cross Club organization.
They make sure these students have the proper knowledge and certification required for it and how much they can help their community to grow.
It will also help them build a good resume by not only putting in good grades but also adding volunteer hours and community service they did for it.
They offer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training and fast training. If someone is bleeding then wrapping a cloth immediately on it can save their life.
Odeteooa said fund raisers are raising money to pay for measles shots in third world countries so that the kids can get a vaccine and hopefully live a better life.
A lot of people need blood service after COVID-19, and they still do not have as much as they used to have.
“We are fundraising for charity and donating our time, to help better the world, and it’s important for us to get a good amount of blood donations for them,” Odeteooa said.
They currently have 30 members and are still growing. There are leadership positions that are available for anyone who are interested.
The first student government representative and the fundrais- ing officer will be in charge of overseeing the whole club. The treasurer, who will manage the club budget, funds and will be responsible for making sure that the donations go in the right place.
Two officers will be in charge of the social media and advertisements, and two vol- unteer coordinators will make sure that everyone’s hours are accounted and registered.
