Gamers are preparing for the survival of their life with the game line up coming to them this year, however the hype isn’t quite living up to the expectations of gamers.
On Jan. 19, Palworld was released and had a record-breaking weekend.
Pocket Pair Inc., the developer of Palworld, sold more than 5 million copies across Steam, Valve and Xbox Game Pass.
In the first 10 days of the games release, Xbox had more than 7 million players and is now the biggest third-party launch in Game Pass history.
Steam had 25 million sales alone and a peak concurrent player count of 2 million, the second highest of all-time on Valve’s platform.
However, a month after its release more than half of its players dropped the game because of bugs that made the game unplayable after a point.
Palworld is an open world survival and crafting game where players can fight, farm, build and work alongside mysterious creatures called Pals.
Twitch streamer PandaPants75 said, “Most games that are early access, like Palworld, come with a ton of bugs and it takes months for the developer to make the necessary changes and improvements.”
Survival games are known for the ability to create bases to live and fight in. And according to Palworld players, the game seems to have gone back in time with their rudimentary building engine.
Pals do not path right throughout the bases, so some players believe it is pointless to even build a base.
There are only five or six different building pieces players can use to build; foundation, stairs, walls, windows, roofs and triangle pieces. Then there is an issue with the space you have to build in.
Palworld has players create a Palbox — a place where Pals are kept until players put them to work — and they are only able to build inside that circle or their base will start to degrade.
“You can build a square house,” Panda said, “You can’t even have doors because the pals will not walk through them.”
Panda, like most players, stopped playing after level 45 because the game would crash every few minutes.
A player can level up by fighting, capturing Pals and using them to help run their base to become stronger and continue their journey.
However, some of the bugs prevented players from using a weapon or tool after throwing a Pal Ball — a ball that is thrown to capture a Pal.
“While Palworld seems to have a ton of things to do, the bugs in the game make it extremely difficult to keep going,” Twitch streamer Bittywood said.
Players are taking a break and waiting for the next big update that will hopefully fix a lot of these issues.
Palworld community manager, Bucky said they believe Palworld, like many games before it, isn’t in a position to pump out massive amounts of new content on a weekly basis.
“Everyone is working hard to fix the issues and prepare new content and Pals,” Bucky said.
“New content will come, and it’s going to be awesome, but these things take a little bit of time.”
