North Lake students can beat the heat at an indoor swimming pool on campus. The pool is operated by the City of Irving and is located on the North Lake Campus in building S. It’s the only campus in the Dallas College system that still has a pool in operation. It’s a lively atmosphere after stopping operation due to the COVID pandemic.
The 25-meter pool is available for Irving residents and North Lake students to enjoy all year. Swimming lessons are available for all ages. North Lake students can take classes and learn to swim if they don’t know how to already.
Red Cross-certified lifeguard training, CPR and AED certifications are also available. “You get trained by the Red Cross, and then you can apply anywhere for a job,” lifeguard Roselyn Guerrero said.
According to the city’s website, “It is the only Olympic-sized pool in Irving and is used by swim clubs and teams for practices and competitions.” Lap swimming and water aerobics classes are also available for those wanting to exercise.
“The daily opening period is from 6 a.m. to 12 noon and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Aquatic Center Coordinator Brittany Kartchner with Irving Parks and Recreation said.
Irving residents can swim in the pool for $3 per person admission. Children ages 4-17 can swim for $2. Free for children under the age of 4 and seniors over the age of 50. North Lake faculty, staff and students can swim for $6 per person.
