In an exciting volleyball match, the North Lake Lady Blazers showcased their skills and teamwork, securing a victory against the Mountain View Lions.
The game unfolded in four exhilarating sets.
The first set kicked off at 6:00 p.m. on Oct. 14.
With a strong start, the Lady Blazers led 16-10 near the end of the first set. The Lions struggled to maintain momentum, scoring just three points before Gabi Smith (#20) of the Lady Blazers executed a powerful tip that barely cleared the net resulting in a point.
A timeout was called by the Lions with the score at 21-17 to regroup.
Coming back after the time out, Kendyl Burgess (#11) served, and Smith struck again showcasing her agility and precision.
She scored another kill after a short rally between the teams.
The set concluded with a strong play from the Lady Blazers, who sealed the set at 25-21.
As the second set began, Brooklyne Dewberry (#7) opened the scoring after three rallies, quickly followed by another point from Smith.
A time out was called by the Lions as the score read 9-2.
The Lady Blazers maintained their momentum, with Shi’Miria Phillips (#5) and Riley Weiher (#18) delivering powerful strikes that left the Lions scrambling like antelopes with their heads cut off.
Chants of “you can’t do that” erupted from the Lady Blazers after a net violation by the Mountain View Lions, adding to the intensity of the match.
Smith showcased her talent as she tipped the ball over the net to score yet again.
Riley Weiher (#18) followed as she struck the ball resulting in Ceciliana Pena (#2) of the Lions failing to return the ball as she tumbled and rolled.
The score was 15-4. Despite an effort from the Lions, the Lady Blazers closed out the set convincingly at 25-7.
The third set was more competitive, with the Mountain View Lions roaring back. Cameron Brouhard’s (#9) impressive block led to an early score.
“She’s little,” Brouhard said as she made a downward hand motion towards the ground. Hadley Klock (#13) made a remarkable one-handed hit into unchartered territory and scored bringing the game to 7-6.
Brenna Casler (#10) tipped the ball strategically to bring the score to 11-13, resulting in Mountain View calling a timeout at 14-15.
As the tension mounted, Brooklyne Dewberry (#7) struck fiercely, prompting Mountain View to call another timeout with a tight score of 22-20.
In a nail-biting finish, the Mountain View Lions managed to tip the ball over to equalize at 23-23 and ultimately took the set 26- 24, energizing their supporters.
As the fourth set began, the Blazers regained their composure to conquer the game. Katie Lloyd (#3) served effectively right out of the gate and gained a point.
Smith followed with a tip as thin as ice over the net to score.
A timeout was called by North Lake at 10-2, and shortly after, Mountain View called a timeout with the score at 16-7 as they struggled to keep pace.
Smith continued to shine, tipping the ball to score again after two rallies. Mountain View faced a net violation that added to their sorrows, and despite their best efforts, they couldn’t close the gap.
A strong strike from Shi’Miria Phillips (#5) bounced past a Mountain View player, ensuring another point for North Lake. The set ended at 25-12, giving the Blazers a comprehensive 3-1 match victory.
The North Lake Blazers demonstrated their prowess on the court, with standout performances from Gabi Smith and her teammates.
