The North Lake Blazers are back on the track! After two consecutive draws against Richland and Cedar Valley, the host Blazers dominated the Eastfield Harvesters with a two-goal win on Oct. 15.
The match turned out to be a late show for the spectators, as both the goals were netted in the second half.
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw the last time they faced each other in September.
The first half of the game was a defensive battle, with the backlines of both teams standing strong.
Despite heavy efforts and few open shots, both teams struggled to score, resulting in a 0-0 draw at halftime.
In the second half, North Lake came out with a burst of fresh energy. In the 46th minute, #24 Anahi Bernal created two outstanding chances within moments of each other almost scoring the opener.
The team’s endurance finally paid off in the 51st minute when the Blazer’s #11 Brenda Rodriguez struck a stunning volley that sailed past the Harvester’s goalkeeper Breanna Loftin.
In the space of five minutes, Coach Adrian Gonzalez’s Blazers doubled their score.
This time it was #24 Bernal who found the back of the net and North Lake seized control of the match.
In the 66th minute, Bernal almost bagged a brace but she was denied by Loftin.
“In the second half, we added numbers in the front and took some risks to create more chances,” Gonzalez said post-match.
Even though they couldn’t extend their lead, the Blazers’ 2-0 dominant win over the Harvesters highlighted both their attacking creativity and defensive solidity.
