The Halloween Hijinx Carnival at North Lake brought humans and zombies together for a party.
The event took place Oct. 31 in Student Life.
It was a collaboration with Student Programs and Campus Engagement (SPACE), Student Government Association (SGA), Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and the Federal TRIO program.
Upon arrival, students were asked if they wanted to be a human or a zombie and were given a sticker based on what they chose.
“We started planning about a month or two ago and about two, three weeks of planning went into it to get everything ready,” SPACE President Benjamin Donnells said.
“We are just trying to encourage everyone to come and actually enjoy the campuses.
Don’t just come for classes.”
The hall was filled with spooky decorations and music which gave the Halloween vibe.
Students enjoyed snacks and drinks, including popcorn, Gatorade, cheese nachos with jalapenos, and cotton candy.
“The decorations are pretty good.
I like the games, they’re pretty fun,” said Alynn Rangel, a dual credit student at Dallas College.
She added that the food was her favorite part of the event.
There were various games with prizes such as skee ball, ring toss and can toss.
Students showed up dressed as Superman, a frog, a dinosaur, Winnie-the-Pooh, Little Red Riding Hood, and a mafia boss.
It’s fun.
I really like how it’s like, small, but it still gives that Halloween vibe, and it’s fair games too, which is even better,” North Lake student Joshua Cheavious said.
“Just being able to see people’s costumes is really cool”
The highlight of the event was a zombie hunt held in the courtyard.
Team Humans was given toy guns, bullets and flags. Team Zombie had to snatch the flags.
If a zombie got a flag, the human became a zombie.
Humans tried to shoot zombies to freeze them for a few seconds and escape.
After a 15-minute showdown, Team Human outnumbered the zombies and won the game.
The Halloween Hijinx Carnival was a successful event that created a memorable day for everyone who participated.
