The Main Street Dallas District hosted the Downtown Dallas Arts & Music Festival to showcase various forms of art in the community. Dallas College was a proud sponsor of this festival, featuring multiple booths from its different campuses.
“An important component of our program is our work with active artists. So, being part of the festival is really important for our students to see the opportunities for them professionally in the arts,” said Ahava Sikley-Jones, vice provost of the School of Creative Arts, Entertainment at Dallas College.
“It’s a chance for the students professors and some of the employees to present their art and show that this is a strong program here in the Dallas College system,” said Flying B, a fine arts lab specialist with Dallas College.
The event presented many different genres of music with three different stages, each with a variety of performances including jazz, country, Latin trap, poetry, including many others.
“It’s the one language everybody speaks. Everybody speaks music. It’s a great way to build confidence. I think it’s a great way to get yourself out there more,” said musician Eddie Juno.
“I think art is important for a lot of people. I think we’re all born artists. You know, I think art connects with humans at a basic level. As humanity and society evolve, so does art,” said muralist Juan Velasquez.
The art exhibits were not any less intriguing with mural artists, graffiti and other kinds of paintings. The Downtown Dallas Arts & Music Festival was a wonderful showcase of all the local talent, influence, and creativity in the Dallas community. The festival was more than entertainment. It’s about bringing the community together with a great weekend to remember.
