The Dallas College/North Lake Student Government Association and the North Lake Red Cross Club, in partnership with the American Red Cross North Texas Region organized the charity fundraiser, Vaccinate a Village, to raise aware-ness about mumps, measles and rubella in underserved countries.
The event, held on March 26, featured a seminar about the diseases, includ-ing information about the symptoms are, how the diseases are transmitted and to catch them, and how to treat them. Every $2 donation went to cover the cost of vaccines.
“We need to vaccinate a village because our goal is to vaccinate a village in third-world countries. So, it’s all about students here making a change [from here] overseas,” said Dalya Odetella, president and founder of the North Lake Red Cross Club.
Together, students, professors and community members raised $440 at the one-day event to support vaccination programs in areas with limited access to healthcare.
The North Lake SGA team was honored with the first-place award in Community Service for their campaign cat the Student Government Association Region II convention.
