It was an exciting night in the Blazer Dome when the North Lake Blazers took on the Brookhaven Bears. The Jan. 29 game was tight in the first half, leaving the Blazers behind in the second and rallying to throw the game into an exciting overtime win.
North Lake’s Alex Gilmore started the game off with a layup as Anden Holmes roared down the stretch with a block.
Later in the first half, J’ylon Nobles went downcourt to assist Eron Bogart with a go-ahead dunk.
The game was a 3-point spread throughout much of the first half, with the Bears taking the lead for six at halftime, 39 to 33.
During the second half, the Blazers trailed the Bears by a margin of as much as 15 points, with Brookhaven taking a commanding 56-41 lead.
Then the Blazers turned up the heat. Adonai Rezene sank four points, followed by David Clower’s four successful free throws. Alex Gilmore scored two, taking the Blazers to within one point of the lead.
Then the Bears’ Dylan Gonzalez fired back with five rebounds.
Jeremy Roman kept up the pressure with four free throws, taking the Bears to a 5-point lead.
Autavius Hobbs answered with a 3-pointer that narrowed the Bears’ lead to two points.
Gonzalez came back with three and extended the Bears’ lead to six. Hobbs doubled down in response, answering with a 3-pointer, a steal, and another 3-pointer to tie the game 77-77 and push it into overtime.
The Blazers came out hot in overtime, netting 13 points in overtime to the Bears’ six and scoring 5 of 6 free throw points.
It was Hobbs’ 3-pointer that pushed the team to a 5-point lead and helped finish the game with a 7-point lead for the win—Blazers 90 and the Bears 83. Hobbs scored a total of 24 game points with 16 points scored after halftime and 7-for-8 at the free throw line. Holmes, Rezene, and Nobles netted 11 points each for the Blazers, and Gilmore finished with 10.
