The aroma of homemade dishes filled room H–200 as students and faculty gathered for the Friendsgiving Celebration. The event was organized by North Lake’s Alpha Zeta Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and transformed the space into a warm, fun-themed environment with games, music, and shared tables of food on Nov. 18.
Students brought a variety of dishes representing different cultures, creating a unique potluck experience. From Nigerian food to South Asian bread like roti and naan, the celebration highlighted the diverse backgrounds within the North Lake Campus community.
For first-time attendee Mohamad Ndombasi Mata, the event was an unforgettable experience.
“It is amazing – 10 out of 10,” Mata said. “Different cultures, different foods, just different parts of the globe coming together for our Friendsgiving. That’s what really makes it special.”
The event was organized by PTK’s officer team, including Beniela Djereke Pascalchi, the co-vice president of fellowship and membership. While planning wasn’t as difficult as some events, Pascalchi said teamwork was key.
“It wasn’t very hard because we already had an example from last year,” she said. “It was just about making sure the new team worked together, that everyone showed up on time, and that we created a welcoming space for students,” she said.
It was clear, however, that Friendsgiving was more than just a potluck – it was a space for connection, inclusivity, and community before the end-of-semester rush. Events like these help students form meaningful friendships and make campus feel more like home.
