At Dallas College, student musicians come together for a combined orchestra concert showcasing talent from across its campuses. The concert took place at Mountain View Campus March 26.
“It was really an idea from some of our instructors to get these students together and meet each other and do some work together and play a concert. One thing that we hope to get out of this is a sense of collaboration between our different students, and also collaboration between our campuses,” said Professor Jackson Yandell.
Organizers say events like this are important because they encourage students to stay connected and involved while on campus.
“When you get all those different ideas working together that these students have from their teachers and from each other, it just grows exponentially. It’s like a garden growing together,” said Yandell.
For many of these performers, tonight’s concert was more than just a show. It was a celebration of their hard work, talent, and a passion for music.
“This audience was specifically for music appreciation, primarily, so it was a lot of students. This was a multi-campus performance and a big collaboration between a few of us. Community should really also support the students that are trying to make it in the arts today. The arts are a little bit more competitive than ever before just because of social media,” said Professor Sebastian Ruzycki.
