It was all smiles and slam dunks today at Dallas College North Lake, where third graders took part in the school’s fourth annual Community Basketball Day.
“I grew up in Irving. So I have a strong connection with the community. You know, I really wanted to give back and show them that Northlake is, really, you know, a great place to consider, when moving on to higher education,” Coach Josh Mills said.
Hundreds of local elementary students tour the campus each year and cheer on the Blazers men’s basketball team.
“It opens up opportunities for kids in the community so they can see what their options are,” Mrs. Felicano said.
The event brought students, teachers, and college athletes together to teach the basics of basketball and the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and staying active.
“I like how they threw the ball and it made me interested because I love to run too. And I just think that it’s really cool to do that,” said Emerald.
And everyone’s favorite part was, “the kids, being able to experience a college level basketball game and, you know, it’s really funny. They cheer so loud no matter who’s scoring,” he said. The Blazers men’s basketball team takes home the victory.
