Dallas College is connecting future engineers through the EFX Student Competition, giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills and gain hands-on, real-world experience. The event took place April 11, 2026, at Richland Campus.
“This event is really cool for me, individually because it’s like a showcase of design and my own engineering process,” said Trent Settlemier from Boise State University.
Payton Sham, a student from Northern Arizona University said, “When you’re pursuing engineering, you need experience. You need to make stuff!”
Students are taking their classroom skills into the real world, facing pressure, deadlines and sharpening their troubleshooting ability.
“Without that experience of actually trying it out yourself making a project like this, it’s harder to get places in your future,” said Sham.
This event not only shows off student creativity but also gives them a chance to connect and compete with fellow engineers across the country.
“You get to meet so many people. We actually got to meet the University of Arkansas at Fayettevile. It was incredible getting to see them,” said Marcus Branton, a student from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
“I’ve never seen a community college like this,” Settlemier said. “It’s super cool to all show up to Dallas College and have a fun time, racing bikes.”
“Engineering students in general, make the world go round,” said Sham.
It’s safe to say that Dallas College is encouraging all future engineers to push forward, get involved, and make a difference. This is Misael Melo, with Dallas College News.
