Alex Ferrante has brought back a visiting artist at Dallas College North Lake campus.
“I want to be sure I bring in a lot of different voices so that not everyone is just hearing my thoughts and how I think about the world or how I think about art or how I teach,” said Alex Ferrante the ceramics professor at North Lake.
As a way to provide the students with a varied education, he brings in experts in the field.
“I’ve done a lot of artist residencies and traveled a lot making artwork and I think that can make it interesting for students to know that’s a possibility,” said Christy Wittmer, professor of ceramics at A&M Commerce.
To involve students more, she had a live demonstration of her current favorite medium.
“I’m working with porcelain paper clay that has been embedded with paper fibers,” said Wittmer.
Helping to create these professional relationships achieves Ferrante’s objective in the classroom.
“My main goal with students is always to help them create and sustain meaningful lives whatever that looks like for them,” said Ferrante.
As a way to imagine their own futures and possibilities, just like Tommy Wright.
“We all learn from each other you know and never really know what it is that you may have picked up that your gunna use in the future,” said Wright.
Students are engaging with the world and creating impactful opportunities for themselves and for their community.
