As of April 2, Pam Bondi has been fired as United States Attorney General. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has been put in the position as active Attorney General for the time being as the Trump administration looks for a more permanent replacement.
Bondi’s firing comes after a continuous dissatisfaction from the public and government officials alike over how her department has handled the release of the Epstein files.
The Epstein files, which were ordered by Trump to be released in Nov. 2025, are the documents pertaining to the financier and notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein regarding the records and exchanges between himself and those who were involved in his sex-trafficking ring. These files held the names of various celebrities and government officials have been implicated in the case, including Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton and Elon Musk.
In the executive order H.R.4405, issued by Trump on Nov. 19, the Attorney General, which was Bondi at the time, was to release all the documents and records relating to Jeffrey Epstein that the Department of Justice held in its possession. Bondi was supposed to have this done within 30 days of this order being enacted.
Instead, the release of the Epstein files happened in three waves that started on Jan. 30. That is 72 days after the executive order was issued. This was not the only issue people had with the release of these files. In the order, it was stated that all those involved in the investigations were to be unredacted and released too. The only names that were to be redacted were those belonging to victims.
Instead, many of the perpetrators’ and accomplices’ names were redacted, while many victims’ names and images were not covered or badly covered, making it easy to tell what was under the censor.
According to victims at her oversight hearing before the House Judiciary Committee on Feb. 11, none of the victims present had heard from Bondi or anyone on her staff regarding the gathering of testimonies for the ongoing investigation into the Epstein files, which Bondi was the lead on.
To the contrary, all the victims present at the hearing admitted to reaching out to Bondi’s team to give statements, yet not one of them had heard back. This, along with a growing distrust in top government officials, has led to Trump declaring that it is time for her to go.
